The Server Room

A futuristic server room from a short film project I'm working on. The model has nearly five million vertices, almost 10 million tris, and 4.5 million faces. It was pretty difficult to light and render it correctly, but it came out nicely.

30,000 samples, 14 hours and 39 minutes to render.

Made in Blender, touched up in photshop, and the smoke was done in After Effects.

Final render with de-noising and smoke. Those servers get hot!

Raw render with increased contrast.

Quick test render I used to make sure I liked the coloring. Distortion is due to the denoiser not knowing what to do with the large quantity of noise. Looks more like a painting in that way, but that wasn't intended.

Filmic render with less contrast than the raw, but more contrast than the final render. Perfect, but it's lacking a few manual de-noising edits I made in the final.

I originally thought it would be too hard to render the whole file. I diced things up a bit and tried to render the servers separately from the room they were in. It was too difficult to get the lighting right. The final render isn't separated at all.

An extreme closeup of the room in the back. I tried to give it a color scheme like the one from Star Wars Episode III.

The first concept render without the monitors, the grids, or the servers. Still took two hours to render!
